This year’s featured speaker is Gary Gryte. Gary’s 45 years of ministry—as a youth pastor, Bible teacher, and senior pastor—reflect a lifelong commitment to serving others and sharing the hope of Jesus. After retiring in 2014, Gary and his wife, Ladonna, faced the devastating loss of their home in the 2018 Camp Fire, yet found a new opportunity to serve at Monterey Bay Academy.
Affectionately known as “Papa Gryte,” Gary continues to mentor students, serve as a dorm dean, support campus life, and coach athletics, offering encouragement and a living example of faith in action. His legacy is found not only in his years of ministry, but in the countless lives touched by his quiet, steadfast service.

Royce and Laurie Snyman will guide us through the Beatitudes and what they look like in the everyday life of a marriage: listening well, offering grace, working through difficult moments, and choosing to love each other with intention. Their hope is simple: to help couples take their marriages “from average to heavenly”—trusting in God’s grace and learning to share that grace with one another.
There will be honest conversation, practical help, time for questions, and plenty of room to reconnect. You don’t need to prepare anything or pretend to have it all together. Whether you were married last spring or forty years ago, you are welcome.

Your Hosts | Royce & Laurie Snyman
Royce and Laurie have been married nearly fifty years—and for much of that time, they’ve been helping other couples build stronger marriages, too.
They met at Pacific Union College and later made their home in Michigan. Royce served there as a pastor before leading ministerial work and evangelism for the Michigan Conference. He retired in 2021. Laurie is a licensed social worker who spent thirty-six years counseling couples and families, including twenty-five years in her own practice, Awakenings Family Therapy in Lansing.
Together, they have led marriage weekends at churches across Michigan and beyond, including their We Still Do series. They don’t speak as people who have marriage neatly figured out. They speak from nearly five decades of loving, learning, laughing, weathering hard seasons, and seeing God at work through it all.
Their approach is warm, honest, and refreshingly practical—less about lofty advice and more about what actually helps two people love each other well.

October 14-17, 2026 | Union Adventist University – Lincoln, Nebraska
Scholars, pastors, students, church leaders, and members from across the North American Division (NAD) will gather October 14–17, 2026, at Union Adventist University in Lincoln, Nebraska, to examine how Adventist prophetic identity should shape the church’s witness amid the challenge of Christian nationalism.
“The Remnant and the Republic: Prophetic Identity, Public Witness, and the Challenge of Christian Nationalism” is the 2026 NAD Research Conference, organized by the North American Division Archives, Statistics, and Research — this year in partnership with NAD Public Affairs and Religious Liberty.
“Adventists have a distinctive history of thinking about religious liberty, political power, and the relationship between church and state,” says Michael W. Campbell, director of Archives, Statistics, and Research. “As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, this conference gives us an opportunity to revisit that history and ask what faithful Adventist public witness should look like today.”
Featured speakers at the four-day conference include nationally recognized authors and academics such as Matthew Taylor (The Violent Take it By Force, 2024), Randall Balmer (America’s Best Idea: Separation of Church and State, 2025), and Katherine Stewart (Money, Lies, and God, 2025). Adventist scholars Jeffrey Rosario, Kevin M. Burton, Maury Damon Jackson, and Douglas Morgan are among the other presenters, along with authors Dwight K. Nelson and Leslie N. Pollard.
Bettina Krause, editor of Liberty magazine, says the conference comes at an important moment for the church. “As Adventists, we have an incredibly rich heritage of religious liberty advocacy,” she says, “but we need to go beyond just celebrating that history. This conference is an opportunity to look at the political, religious, and cultural movements that are testing the prophetic framework we’ve historically brought to questions of church and state.”
“This is an event that’s open to all — not just academics or pastors,” says Melissa Reid, associate director of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty. “We believe our church’s prophetic message has particular resonance today, in the America of 2026, and we’re praying that the conversations begun at Union will continue in churches throughout the division.”
“The Remnant and the Republic” will take place October 14–17, 2026, at Union Adventist University in Lincoln, Nebraska. Registration is open through AdventSource. Early-bird registration is available through September 23, and student registration is free.
