Job Summary:

The Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth. The teacher is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with the Rocky Mountain Conference policies and will be intentional in creating opportunities where each student is introduced to Jesus as their personal friend and Savior.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Models spiritual maturity in leading students towards Christ and spiritual growth.
  • Commits to helping foster the CHERISH Core Values.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships, modeling professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, members of the community, the School Operating Committee and the Rocky Mountain Conference.
  • Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and special needs are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
  • Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
  • Encourages and monitors the progress of individual students, providing appropriate feedback on work on a consistent and timely basis.
  • Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Assigns, grades and returns class work, homework, tests and assignments on a consistent, timely basis.
  • Observes, evaluates and maintains student records regarding performance and development.
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
  • Updates all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, conference policies and school regulations.
  • Performs certain pastoral duties including but not limited to student support, counseling students with academic problems and providing student encouragement.
    NOTE: Teachers are expected to refer students to professional counselors when issues arise that are beyond general academic problems. Please speak with your principal or the education department if you need further guidance in this area.
  • Prepares and submits required reports in a timely manner regarding students and activities.
  • Regularly checks and responds to phone calls, messages and email in a timely manner regarding work-related matters and requests for information.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures and applies appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary as stated in the school handbook.
  • Willingly participates in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations.
  • Keeps up to date with developments in subject area, teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities as directed by the North American Division Department of Education.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Rocky Mountain Conference Education Department and their School Board.

Performance Factors

The following are used during the annual review process to determine if the employee is meeting job expectations:

  • Attendance and punctuality: The employee can be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is seldom absent from work. For supervision purposes, teachers must be on campus at least 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after the end of the school day.
  • Employee can be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner and is conscientious about assignments.
  • Employee communicates effectively in English, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Wearing the armor of the Fruits of the Spirit, the employee exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working relationships.
  • The employee commits to being a life-long learner and sets measurable goals (short- and long-term) for both personal and professional development/growth.


  • A willingness to share their Christian testimony and instruct others in the faith.
  • Be a member in good standing of a Seventh-day Adventist church within the Rocky Mountain Conference. Membership must be transferred within six months if transferring from outside of the RMC region.
  • Regularly attend your local church
  • Faithfully return an honest tithe to the Rocky Mountain Conference.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or a related field preferred.
  • Current denominational certification
    • Assumes responsibility for maintaining certification according to the policies set by Mid-America Union

Typical Physical Demands:

Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation as well as standing for extended periods of time while instructing, working with and supervising students. The employee must also possess the ability to work with multi-age students with diverse backgrounds and abilities. Must be able to read, speak, and hear. Must be able to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, reach overhead and may occasionally lift and carry items up to 25 pounds for short distances. Employee may be required to use stairs and drive/operate a vehicle.

The teacher position is based on a 10-month assignment (August 1–May 31) and requires great flexibility in hours available for work, including evenings and weekends during that time period. While the position is a full time, salaried position based upon a projected 38 hours per week for 10 months, the actual number of hours required during any given week are those needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Furthermore, it is recognized that the schedule may vary at different times during the school year. The work week is defined as Sunday through Saturday.

Working Conditions:

Essential responsibilities are performed primarily while sitting and standing. This position is highly demanding and requires great flexibility and responsiveness. Schools are typically well lighted and ventilated. Noise volumes may vary as children are known to cry, babble, talk, scream, sing, yell, etc., and cause/make sounds, sometimes excessively, during their normal play and daily activities.
