The Nuggets will not be sent out next week » Each week, our communication director, Mark Bond, does an excellent job placing the images and text in each issue of the Nuggets. Next week, he and his family will combine some family vacation time with a wedding they will be a part of during the weekend. We want him to enjoy his time with family, so have scheduled the next edition of the Nuggets for release on Friday, Oct. 4.
On the road » This past Sabbath, I heard Mark Bond preach about what his dream church would look like. I am not sure if the sermon has been archived on the Franktown (Colo.) Church website, but it was a real blessing for me to hear his vision. What is your dream Seventh-day Adventist Church? I think it is worth thinking about and sharing with one another.
I look forward to spending Sabbath with the guys at the Men’s Advance conference, taking place this weekend at Redcloud Ranch in Lake City, Colo. Every time I attend a men’s conference, I come away encouraged; I am sure I will be blessed this weekend as well.
On another note, I want to share something that has been bothering me. Not long ago, a colleague in ministry was the target of an onslaught of negativity on the Internet. Things he said were twisted and edited to make him out to be a tool of the devil! It didn’t take long for me to go to the source and learn what the real truth was.
Unfortunately, much damage to his character and ministry had occurred already. Why are we so quick to believe every email that comes along? Why are we so willing to forward information we have not verified to be true? Why is the admonishment in Matthew 18 so quickly ignored?
I encourage you to read a rather powerful passage about gossip, written by Ellen White. It seems to me to be applicable to and written directly for all of us in the Internet age. The Internet has such power to spread either what is good or hurtful. After reading the passage, I hope we will have the courage to hit the delete button way more often than the forward button in the days to come!
Happy Sabbath to all!
Elder Gary Thurber
Rocky Mountain Conference president
