New group of believers forms in Crownpoint, New Mexico » The work at La Vida Mission continues to grow and impact its corner of our conference. Read this story sent to me from Polly and Dorie Panganiban, church and community outreach coordinators at La Vida, about a new fellowship group starting up in Crownpoint, about 30 miles south of La Vida.
The NAD responds to Hurricane Sandy » The North American Division voted to support the Hurricane Sandy relief effort with $500,000 dollars, and the General Conference also chipped in $200,000. Several other unions and conferences also made pledges. As we heard firsthand, the needs in the affected region are great, and much relief work needs to be accomplished. Click here for more. A Division-wide special offering was held yesterday to support the relief efforts. If you are planning to support the relief efforts, and haven't known where or how, you can donate by clicking here.

On the road » Diane and I returned from Silver Spring, Md., Thursday, and are glad to be home. There was a very gracious spirit that prevailed at the NAD Year-End Meeting, and much was accomplished. If you want to hear some powerful and inspirational sermons from last week, visit the Hope Channel website to view them. You will be very blessed.
Yesterday, Diane and I had a wonderful Sabbath with the Chapel Haven Church family in Northglenn, Colo. It was “Education Sabbath,” and the bell choir from Vista Ridge Academy shared their musical tallents.
The high point was a baptism of three individuals who attended the evangelistic meetings they have been holding there. There are more baptisms planned next week as well.
This morning, Eric Nelson and I headed down to Pueblo to visit Dale Fuhrmeister, pastor of the Arkansas Valley, Lamar, and Springfield churches. Last night, Dale was in a serious car accident, and his back was fractured in two places. Miraculously, he was not paralyzed, and in fact, when we arrived he was sitting up in a chair! They will not need to do any surgery, but he will be wearing a back brace and a neck brace for several weeks. They are hoping to send him home from the hospital in a few days. He is quite sore and definitely in need of our prayers!
Tomorrow, Diane and I will head to our respective Union Year-End Meetings. Since Diane is the managing editor for the Lake Union Herald, she will be at the Lake Union headquarters in Berrien Springs, Mich., and I will be in Lincoln, Neb., for our Mid-America Union meetings. Diane is especially looking forward to her trip because she will have an opportunity to meet our son’s new girlfriend!
Have a blessed week!
Elder Gary Thurber
