Update on Rocky Mountain Conference mission trips » From all I have heard, the four RMC short-term mission trips are going well. We have missionaries in Belize, Ecuador, Honduras and Panama. The mission teams have experienced a few challenges along the way, but great things are happening in all the sites. Jamey Houghton, RMC youth evangelism coordinator, reports that already there have been a number of baptisms as a result of the evangelistic meetings our young people are presenting, and many more precious individuals are planning to commit their lives to Jesus through baptism this coming weekend.
You can follow a blog Bill Hay, RMC associate director of Planned Giving and Trust Services, set up to share daily updates about the good work being done by our young people in Belize. The link to the blog is: rmcmission.tumblr.com.
Let’s continue to pray for our mission teams as they move into their final Sabbath in their respective locations.
Don and Marti Schneider to say good-bye to the Denver South Church » For the past two-and one-half years, Pastors Don and Marti Schneider have provided leadership at the Denver South Church. In talking with the Schneiders, they have expressed how difficult it is to say good-bye to a congregation they have come to love so much! There is no question but that the church family feels the same way toward them.
March 30 will be the Schneiders’ final Sabbath at Denver South. “Thank you,” Don and Marti, for your loving service here in the Rocky Mountain Conference. Blessings as you make your way to Keene, Texas, where I am sure you will find a new adventure in your service to Jesus!
‘La Voz de la Esperanza’ radio program is now heard in Farmington, N. Mexico » Pastor Ruben Balaguer, pastor of the Bloomfield Hispanic Company, reports that, through a united effort of the Bloomfield Church members, the “La Voz de la Esperanza” (The Voice of Hope) radio program now is aired daily on the most powerful Spanish-speaking station in Farmington, N. Mexico. The church members also have created posters to display around the community to draw interest to the program. Let’s pray for this new endeavor!
Conference Executive Committee prays for a seven percent (7%) tithe increase in 2013 » On Tuesday, March 12, the RMC Conference Executive Committee approved the final budget for the 2013 fiscal year. As a conference, we ended 2012 with basically the same amount of tithe as was remitted in 2011. A flat tithe always means a conference will have a difficult budget to balance the following year. The reason for this is simply that costs for employees, healthcare, insurance, travel, etc., keep going up, but there are no extra funds to cover these costs.
To bring the conference back in line with the costs we are facing for 2013, and looking toward 2014, a seven percent (7%) tithe increase is being prayed for. I know that amount sounds like a huge increase, in light of the economy and the previous tithe increase history. We know the challenge before us, but we also believe we have a huge God who can bless us beyond our imagination.
Will you join us in prayer? Please pray not only for the seven percent (7%) tithe increase, but also for the giving at each local church so local ministries can be enhanced and expenses met.
On the road » The district gathering planned last Sabbath, for the churches in the eastern plains of Colorado, was postponed due to inclement weather. The event has been rescheduled to June 1.
Despite the weather, Pastor Rex Bell was privileged to baptize eight people at the Ft. Morgan Church in Colorado. In the next couple of weeks, ten more individuals will be baptized in that district. Great things are happening in our churches on the eastern plains!
On Monday, I will drive to Cedaredge, Colo., to attend the funeral for Ed Marah, who passed away this week. Ed was the father of Pat Chapman, who works in the RMC Education Department. Ed was both the mayor and sheriff of Cedaredge for many years, and was a wonderful witness for the Lord in that community.
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. So encourage each other with these words.
—1 Thessalonians 4:16–18 NLT
I pray we will be an encouragement to one another this Sabbath!
