Rocky Mountain Conference welcomes new ministry leaders » We are blessed to be able to introduce you to two new ministry leaders who are coming to our conference.
Steve Hamilton comes to us from the Central California Conference to be the new youth director. Steve has a number of years of experience both as a youth pastor and senior pastor. In addition to his pastoral duties, he also coordinated numerous senior youth programs for the Central California Conference.
Steve has a passion to see our youth fully engaged in our church and its mission.
Also joining our team is Ben Orian, who will be the new pastor for the Brighton Church. Ben comes to us from the Paw Paw, Mich., district where he served as senior pastor. Ben is passionate about his Savior and has been a blessing everywhere he has served.
Both of these new ministry leaders and their families will transition to the Rocky Mountain Conference in January.
Houghtons welcome baby Riley » Just today, the newest member of our conference family was born. Riley Sue Houghton was born to Erin and Jamey Houghton at Avista Adventist Hospital. Jamey is the Rocky Mountain Conference youth evangelism coordinator. Riley is now the little sister of Callie and Josh Houghton. Welcome to the family, Riley!
RMC INTEL Bible worker program graduates 61 » INTEL is a curriculum for lay persons offered by the Hispanic Ministries Institute at Andrews University. Professors from the Seminary and other Adventist institutions train Spanish-speaking members internationally to be Bible workers. They taught our members a variety of subjects, such as doctrine, Bible prophecy, hermeneutics and evangelistic training. Each candidate committed to one full weekend a month for nine months for the training, paid to participate in the course, and received a graduation certificate from the Hispanic Ministries Institute upon completion.
All of this was made possible by the leadership of our Hispanic pastors. This year, Pastor David Rodriquez is the coordinator of the local INTEL chapter, and Pastor Frank Wilson is the treasurer. Pastor Cesar Pompa is the secretary, and RMC Hispanic coordinator Pastor Reuben Rivera is the advisor. However, it was a team effort by all of the Hispanic pastoral team.
Congratulations to the 61 graduates! May the Lord bless you greatly for your dedication and commitment to His cause!

Brighton Church announces new Lifetree Café ministry » Pam Taylor sent me a note this week with information about a new outreach ministry the Brighton Church started Dec. 1. As she describes it, the Lifetree Café “is a comfortable place and time together weekly to explore life and faith, where the atmosphere encourages conversations, questions and personal stories. Lifetree Café meets every Sabbath morning at 9:30 a.m. and organizers hope to expand to add other Lifetree groups during the week. Let’s pray for the Lifetree Café ministry.
ACS Community Lift reaches out to families during Thanksgiving » Did you know that our own ACS Community Lift provided more than 300 complete Thanksgiving dinner baskets for their clients. In addition, they served more than 200 homeless individuals and provided much-needed medical care to them as well. Next week, they will have 300 parents come and shop in their Santa Store for presents for their little ones. A big “Thank You!” to our leadership team at ACS Community Lift and all who support this ministry.
On the road » Last Sabbath, Diane and I enjoyed getting to meet with the Living Stone branch Sabbath school, led by Pastor Matt Wakefield who is part of the Denver South pastoral team. Living Stone rents out the Comedy Works showroom for their services on Sabbath morning. Keith Byers, a lay leader in this new endeavor, gave the morning message, which brought out the beautiful, spiritual lessons from the Christmas carol, “Oh, Holy Night,” in light of the gospel.
Sabbath afternoon we were blessed to experience the well-attended open house at The Healing Place, where many testimonies were shared about the work that takes place there for those in need in downtown Denver.
Later that afternoon, we were blessed to experience the INTEL Graduation Ceremony mentioned earlier in the Nuggets.
Tonight, Diane and I are excited to experience the “Festival of Lights” Christmas music program at the Denver South Church. If you can’t make it tonight, a second program will be offered tomorrow.
Tomorrow, we will worship with both the Greeley and The Adventure church families. We are excited to spend Sabbath with both congregations.
Wherever you are worshipping our Creator tomorrow, I want to encourage you to pray today that the Lord will provide you many opportunities to bless someone in their walk with the Lord. What a great privilege we have to encourage one another as we journey together to the kingdom.
Elder Gary Thurber
Rocky Mountain Conference president
