Franktown Church hosts vegetarian barbeque » I received this report from Colleen Anderson, a Franktown (Colo.) Church member, about a community outreach event recently held at her church.
“The Franktown SDA Church held its first Free Community Vegetarian BBQ last Sunday, Aug. 28. Donated veggies became gourmet treats as visitors from the community dined and socialized together. One surprise was the many requests for recipes. The vegetarian BBQ was a pre-event to make friends and create interest for an evangelistic series the Franktown Church will present beginning Sept. 28 and continuing through Oct. 13.”
Hurricane Isaac relief effort information provided » As you might imagine, the Adventist Church is participating in the relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Isaac. Martin Weber, MAUC communication director, just sent the following message out to the Mid-America Union about how we can help others effected by this disaster. Click here to learn more.
On the road » My wife, Diane, and I had a wonderful Sabbath with Pastor Bruce Aalborg, his wife, Linda Aalborg, and the Littleton (Colo.) Church family last week. The Littleton Church family is such a warm, friendly group.
It was especially nice to see Tony Harrison again, whom I met when I was at Littleton about three years ago. When I first met Tony, he was a new attender helping out the praise team because a co-worker, Jack Barron, asked him to come share his musical talents. Tony did come to help the praise team, but he had no interest in church at all. Last week, I saw he was still part of the praise team; but now, he and his wife, Cathie Harrison, are both members at Littleton! Tony said the church was so accepting and loving, and after they studied with the pastor, now they have found a home.
Tomorrow, Diane and I are privileged to spend Sabbath at the Hispanic Camp Meeting at Glacier View Ranch in Ward, Colo. This yearly event is extremely well planned and attended. A big thanks to Pastor Ruben Rivera, his wife, Patricia Rivera, and all the Hispanic pastors who do so much to make this event come together.
Diane shared the following quote with me this week, penned by Ellen White. I thought you might appreciate it like I did.
“There is no surer way of weakening ourselves in spiritual things than to be envious, suspicious of one another, full of faultfinding and evil surmising... When you are associated together, be guarded in your words... If the love of the truth is in your heart you will talk of the truth. You will talk of the blessed hope that you have in Jesus. If you have love in your heart, you will seek to establish and build up your brother in the most holy faith. If a word is dropped that is detrimental to the character of your friend or brother, do not encourage this evil speaking. It is the work of the enemy. Kindly remind the speaker that the Word of God forbids that kind of conversation. We are to empty the heart of everything that defiles the soul temple, that Christ may dwell within. Our Redeemer has told us how we may reveal Him to the world. If we cherish His spirit, if we manifest His love to others, if we guard one another’s interests, if we are kind, patient, forbearing, the world will have an evidence by the fruits we bear that we are the children of God. It is the unity in the church that enables it to exert a conscious influence upon unbelievers and worldings.” —That I May Know Him, p.153
