Gary Thurber's Adventures

Gary Thurber, President
This past month was filled with many meaningful events. I visited the members and preached at the Cheyenne and Laramie churches in Wyoming, and the Aspen Park church in Colorado. Each of these churches had such a positive spirit, and members expressed their conviction to reach their communities for Christ.

The Denver South church hosted an ASI rally on January 23 with Peter Neri from the Paradise church in Las Vegas as the guest speaker. In the afternoon, stories were told of ASI members sharing Christ in the marketplace and around the world. In addition, January brought the beginning of our Town Hall journey. We have had Town Hall meetings in Casper, Denver Metro and Colorado Springs with the rest taking place over the next few weeks and months.

Maranatha Hispanic Company formed January 9, 2010

On January 9, the Maranatha Hispanic Company was formed in Aurora, Colorado. How exciting it was to see 70 people respond to the invitation given by Pastor Frank Wilson to be a part of this new group of believers. It was a festive day, and after the dedication service they had a fantastic meal where I tasted my first chile rellano made with a jalapeño—and I lived to tell the story.

On January 23, Denver Central Hispanic Church had a special dedication service for their new church home. More than 100 people were present for the celebration. Pastor Norris Custodio and the church leadership team led out in this meaningful program.

Another important event that took place in January was the ministers meeting at Glacier View Ranch. What a blessing it was for me to worship with our pastors and some of their families in that beautiful setting! (Thanks Clayton and Wanda and the whole GVR staff for being such great hosts.) Dr. Joe Kidder from the Seminary at Andrews University led our plenary sessions. He challenged us to go deep into the Word, to be men and women of prayer, to seek the Lord's leading in our ministry, and to have the Spirit of Christ in us so we will reflect Him in all we do.

As a pastoral team, we also spent time in Bible study and prayer together. I left the mountain more thankful than ever for the pastoral team we have here in the Rocky Mountain Conference.

On a personal note my oldest son, Ryan, got engaged on Sunday to Baylie Thompson, the daughter of Charlie and Trish Thompson (youth leaders for the Indiana Conference). Baylie is a wonderful Christian young lady studying nursing at Southern Adventist University, and we couldn't be more pleased to soon have her as a daughter-in-law.
