Eric Nelson's Highlights

At the present time we have held town hall meetings in Casper, Colorado Springs, and the Denver Metro area. To date there has been a warm and appreciative response to the time shared in these meetings.

When one thinks of “Town Hall Meeting” the normal reaction is sharing of boring statistical reports by officers and departments of the conference. However, this time there is somewhat of a change in the presentation topics.

As the afternoon presentation begins, there is an emphasis on the centrality of the gospel in the Christian’s life. Nothing transformational will happen in our lives and churches unless we have experienced the good news that Jesus died for us and we have accepted his free gift of Salvation. Nothing that we do adds to or earns our right to heaven.

After this reminder, those gathered have been breaking out into smaller study groups to study a series of passages from Paul’s writing about how a healthy church acts. These passages are the directives that Paul wrote to the New Testament Church as to how they should conduct themselves as members of the church.

The study groups are then asked to share specific, practical ways that they see their church living out these passages. They share the qualities and conduct that should be typical for the church today.

The meetings close with reports from the various departments of the conference, specifically reports on membership, finances, schools, and ministry within the Rocky Mountain Conference. Elder Thurber then closes the meeting with a questions and answer time.

It has been refreshing to hear members comment on their reactions to the meetings. Comments include, “this was a very spiritual time together”, “I did not expect a call to revival at a Town Hall meeting”, “We need to go back to our church and make some things right”, “We would experience more church growth if we lived as these texts tell us to”.

We are so glad that people have been blessed as they have attended these area meetings. We pray for transformation in our lives and the churches within the Rocky Mountain Conference. We fully recognize that this cannot happen as a result of our plans or programs but only by the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives and churches.
